Reiki Healing

Reiki is an energy healing practice with its roots in Japanese origin. Mikao Usui is the founder of the modern natural healing method of Reiki.  It is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. Reiki is a healing technique that alleviates stress and promotes relaxation.  It helps to promote and accelerate the natural healing process and restore balance on all levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Reiki is totally safe and complementary to any form of treatment, be it natural or conventional, and can often be used in circumstances where other therapies may be contraindicated.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki practitioners place their hands on or just above a person's body in their energy field. Life force energy surrounds all living things, and if it is left unbalanced, it causes illness and stress. Reiki healing therapy works through the transference of positive energy into the chakras, which serve as a pathway for life force energy to flow through the body. These chakras become blocked by negative thoughts and feelings, and blockages can decrease organ functioning and health, as life force energy is unable to reach them. The transference of positive energy into chakras breaks up the blockage by increasing vibrations in the body's energy field. The subsequent pathways are both healed and straightened, and life force energy can penetrate the body's organs and tissues to increase their level of functioning.

Who is Reiki for?

Reiki can be used by anyone of any age or physical circumstance as the transmission of the Reiki energy is non-draining and not dependent on the health or the belief systems of the practitioner. Reiki can be performed on babies and pets as well.

What can one expect during a Reiki session?

A session can be 30, 60 to 90 minutes long. A discussion will usually take place during an initial session with a Reiki Practitioner. The Reiki Practitioner will describe the session to the client, give the client an opportunity to discuss any particular problems or issues they are experiencing and ask them what they are hoping to achieve from their session. The client will rest comfortably on a massage table on their back with their shoes removed. The practitioner may ask the client to lie on their stomach during the treatment. Reiki can be performed with the client sitting comfortably in a chair as well. Unlike massage therapy, no articles of clothing are removed and a client is always fully clothed. Loose, comfortable clothing is suggested. A session can either be hands-on, where a Practitioner will apply a light touch during the session, or hands-off where they will hold their hands slightly above your body. If a client prefers not to be touched they can indicate this to the practitioner before they begin.

The session will then proceed with the Reiki Practitioner moving through specific standard Reiki hand positions beginning at the client’s head or feet. A recipient of Reiki might feel a warming sensation or a tingling during the session or nothing at all but sheer relaxation. The session should be very pleasant, relaxing and invigorating.

What is the difference between a Reiki Practitioner and a Reiki Master?

Becoming a Reiki Practitioner requires education and training and receiving an attunement process from a Reiki Master. Ceremonial in nature, this attunement allows the student access to the universal life force energy. A Reiki Master is a third-level practitioner who has completed advanced education and training in Reiki and can teach and pass it onto others. There are different levels and types of Reiki. Some types of Reiki are only taught to existing Reiki Masters.

What is Karuna Reiki® ?

Karuna Reiki® is a system of Reiki that was developed by William Lee Rand and other healers at the International Centre for Reiki Training (ICRT). Karuna is a Sanskrit word which can be translated as “compassionate action.” William Rand believes that “Karuna Reiki® brings in healing energies that are noticeably stronger and able to more quickly heal a wider range of difficulties.” Many Reiki Masters worldwide who have been trained in Karuna Reiki® support this statement.

“It was found that in order for one to gain the full benefit of Karuna Reiki® one must be ready. This can happen only if one’s energy system has first been conditioned through the use of the Reiki master energies. Once this conditioning has taken place, one’s energy system can more easily adjust to the higher potentials available. In addition, the experience one gains as a Reiki master allows one to make better use of the new healing tools Karuna Reiki® provides. Because the energies are stronger and the potential for healing greater, we consider Karuna Reiki® the next step after Reiki master. This is why it is only taught to those who are already Reiki masters.” (William Lee Rand)

Distant Reiki Treatments

A Distant Reiki Treatment is similar to a full reiki treatment, except the client is not physically present at the practitioner’s rooms but in their own home, office, hospital or another quiet space free from noise and the disturbance of other people and their energies. Clients usually opt for a Distant Reiki Treatment if they live in another city from the practitioner, are travelling away for work or holiday, are hospitalised or cannot attend regular treatment times due to challenges at work.

Distant Reiki Treatments can be arranged during the evening or day depending on the practitioner’s availability. A date, time and duration is arranged and the practitioner and the client make the connection prior to the start of the treatment. The client will lie down in a quiet room or space with their eyes closed and free from the interference of cell phones and other electronic devices. The practitioner holds the energetic connection throughout the treatment session. The client may choose to rest or sleep after the treatment or set an alarm if there are urgent matters to attend to. The practitioner will follow-up with advice/ impressions/additional information that came up during the session via email or over the phone (allow 24 - 48 hours). Payment details can be arranged with the practitioner when the appointment is booked.

Distant Reiki Treatments are very powerful and convenient for those who cannot make it to their practitioner’s rooms.
